May 25, 2002 Memorial Day Ceremonies at UVA and Scottsville

We were blessed with having our own Richard Britton speak at the UVA Ceremony May 25th, 2002 at 11AM. He gave a wonderful speech on the Confederate Military personnel from the Charlottesville-Albemarle area. We were also well entertained by the ladies of the Albemarle UDC, and by the President of the State Chapter of the UDC. Also special thanks to the 19th Virginia Infantry reenactors for their great presence, Knibbs Battery for the artillery, and everyone who made this event possible and those who attended.

At 2PM, we gathered and had a wonderful crowd, including a real daughter in Scottsville at the Confederate Cemetery. It was hot, but we all endured. Our own Richard Nicholas has done several years of research to find out the names of the 40 soldiers buried in cemetery. He has finally determined all the men believed buried in the cemetery. We greatly appreciate all his hard work to complete this task. With the help of several, including the Town of Scottsville, a stone was dedicated this day by the Scottsville UDC, with the names of all the men. We were also blessed with having descendants of one of the men. They had been looking for their ancestors whereabouts for many years. We had several reenactors present, including the 19th Virginia. Knibbs Battery provided the artillery, and our music was provided by the Stonewall Brigade Band. Again, thanks to everyone who made this event possible and those who attended.
